What? You don’t have your own Jesus pen?

This past week, I have been a mom on the edge.

And I bring you now to this post.

As I reminder I told you it would happen.

Welcome to my mid-course meltdown.

Take one upcoming posting (PCS for your beautiful American ladies) season and it’s questions, add one behaviorally challenged child and his case conferences and home visits, pile on a cold and make sure to include a Family Support meeting that I decided I had time to run before, didn’t eat breakfast early enough, almost lost said breakfast in front of the morning commuters on the road and then made myself a couple minutes late for…

And you are left with Me,ver. 2.Crazy

Oh, and winter clothes.  You are left with winter clothes.

They are everywhere because I am in the middle of the Community Winterwear Drive.  So my trunk, my front room, an office at the church I really need to get to and every square inch of the barely organized Community Closet is jam packed with bags of winterwear.

This is a good thing.  This is a very good thing because it started snowing today and the whole purpose of the Winterwear Drive is to ensure no families in our community are without winter clothing this year.  Because, in case you live here and haven’t noticed, it gets cold.
And in case you live in Hawaii (you know who you are), cold is when it’s -45 degrees Fahrenheit and your snot freezes to your face.  In case you were wondering.

So I am very grateful for the over abundance of winter clothing that is taking over my life that will mean every family will be able to bundle up from the cold
.
And I am grateful for the school and resources that I have to help my kid in the areas he struggles in.

And I am grateful for the advance warning in case we end up having to move this spring.  It’s only fair, we’ve been here for-ev-er.  It will be an adventure.

And that ankle that I rolled taking out the garbage on the ice?  No biggie.

And the cookies I was in the middle of mixing when my mixer moter completely and totally bit it and I had batter for 8 dozen cookies in a mixer that wasn’t turning?  No sweat.

Even the fact that I broke my favorite Jesus Pen and tried to crazy-glue it together and when the crazy glue was of course clogged and I pulled out a knife to try and open it and I sawed through my finger…..  sure.  what-ev.  No big.  (I will miss you, Jesus pen)

It’s just that sometimes I show my complete calm and gratitude by having small that time of the month fueled emotional melt-downs.  Which, I might add, are much harder to hide on skype than on the phone.

DH actually looked at me like I was completely insane this weekend, which is kind of reassuring that I don’t do this very often since he had absolutely no idea what the right answer was.
In short?  I was d.o.n.e.

Which all may help explain why, when some really nice sounding man from DH’s work calls lets me know there is a fancy shmancy dinner coming up at DH’s work where I would get to wear a pretty dress and eat fancy food, and even with DH gone I am still invited…. you better believe I wanted to go.

I don’t suck at wearing dresses or eating, which is a definite selling point when I feel like I suck at everything else at the moment.

It seemed like a great idea at the time, before I realized at 5 this morning that I agreed to go to a fancy dinner with all the people hubby works with, by myself like a big huge geek who has nothing better to do than attend dinners without DH.

Sigh.  This is still going to be fun.

Cause at the end of the day I’m still a girl who likes pretty dresses and dinners where you need more than one fork.

Hey, I'm pretty sure my neighbor is attending without his wife…although he is the one in the military…that doesn't help, does it? You will look smokin' hot and your DH is totally missin' out.

I apologize now for admitting that I laughed as I read this…don't hate me! Your sense of humor during the tough times is so uplifting to me, although I'm sure you may not feel it at the moment! You are an amazing lady for taking on so many challenges, especially the Winter clothes drive. What a blessing to so many families!
I hope that you enjoy your fancy dinner – you totally deserve it!

NoooooooOOOooooooooOOOooo!! Not the Jesus pen!! Guess we'll have to go get another … 😉

You are so freakin' awesome. 😀

He's attending the same mess dinner? I am excited for the dress, though I more feel bad for my poor DH, it's no fun in the shacks by yourself on the weekends! I'll have to send lots of pictures, though I am sure there are rules about that 🙂

That's ok, I laugh at myself typing these things all the time. Sometimes you just can't catch a break, those are usually the times I'm not paying attention to where God wants me to be and am instead running like a chicken with my head cut off!
And thanks, I certainly don't do anything on my own, but it is nice to see people working together to get stuff done in our community 🙂

I know. Sigh. I still hold out hope for glue, if I ever find any that I Can get open.

    Awe…. thanks 🙂

Funny! But I hear ya. It will be fun on Friday, don't stress it. Need to borrow my mixer? I think I made 1,000 cookies tonight!

Bahaha! What?! You know it was quite nippy and chilly this morning when I woke up and it was 63. Brrrr. lol I very well might keel over and die if I lived in Alaska. I am ever so sorry about your Jesus pen, that was a real loss. I hope your dinner goes well. I was invited to one as well, and I thought it was going to be terribly awkward but since I don't like cooking for one I haven't had anything other than a frozen meal in months and I am a sucker for dressing up. So, I went, and it was much better than I thought it would be.

I love that you're going on your own! I probably wouldn't, because I'm a huge chicken. Instead, I'd stay home all night and wish that I'd gone. Sorry your day's been so crappy. You don't suck, promise. (Is this a bad time to tell you that I can't see any of the pictures on this post?)

Really, you can't? I wonder if other people can? I can on all my computers and cell-phone…. (sadly, that's more than a few devices) but it is unacceptable that you can't see the Jesus Pen! I will try and fix that…

  14. RecceWife | 15th Nov 11

You like that? I try to keep my blog relavent for tropical living American readers 🙂
63 hey. I had to see what that is in celcius, and it's 17 degrees! That's super warm! I am pretty sure I would melt in Hawaii! (Though, I am willing to try. Seriously. I would. If anyone reading this has the power, that is always a possible place we go go live….)
I'm sure that it will be fun by the time I get there and stop feeling like a geek. At the very least, I get to dress up, which always makes me happy!

  15. RecceWife | 15th Nov 11

I ended up buying ingrediants for pepermint chocolate bark, no mixer required.
I'm sure it will be just fine, and if I do something stupid and DH doesn't quite know why he gets demoted when he gets home…. I won't say anything if you don't!

  16. RecceWife | 15th Nov 11

Cool. That's exciting. I have the button up 🙂

  17. ad0178200 | 15th Nov 11

I'm sorry things aren't going well! I hope you have fun at your dinner. P.S. I can see your pictures just fine and P.S.S. I left a little something for you over at my blog http://themommyhoodadventure.blogspot.com/2011/11/little-miss-popular.html

Things will improve! Say it 100 times before you go to bed tonight!! You will have fun at the dinner, too.

Oh, I would totally go on my own. Disclaimer: last time I did this, I lost my car. I went to a gallery opening da sola and spent an hour trying to find my car in the parking building afterward. Finally I took the ticket to the kiosk and the nice man informed me that I was in the wrong building; the one I wanted was one street away. :-/

  22. Sara Lake | 18th Nov 11

You know, I missed the crucial part. 'in heels'. I spent an hour running up and down stairs in a parking building IN HEELS. Now, doesn't that put everything in context?

  23. RecceWife | 18th Nov 11

Buahaha! That would totally be me! Thankfully, there's a really small parkinglot to the Mess, but it snowed all day and I still plan on wearing cute shoes. So since I am missing DH to drop me at the door and will have to hoof it from the outside parkinglot, I might be the geek who wears boots and packs my heels in my purse to change inside! Did I mention its my first one of these dinners? I like to make a dramatic impression….

Good Luck! Cute shoes are a must. (I am short, cute shoes with heels are ESSENTIAL)

  25. RecceWife | 18th Nov 11

Haha, me too! At 5" even, I've been rocking the super heels as long as I can remember!
